Exploring Tianwei, Taiwan’s horticulture hub (one of the best places to buy plants)

On a recent trip to Taiwan, my friend from HOKAS took me to Tianwei Township (田尾) in Changhua County, an area well known for its horticultural industry and gardens. Taiwan ranks as one of the top exporters of flowers globally, and Tianwei has the reputation of being the “land of flowers”. The area is more than just a mecca for flowers, but also plant and tree nurseries, and is one of the best places to buy plants in Taiwan.

Our first stop was Tenway Garden, where we stopped for a healthy lunch and stroll before continuing our garden nusery hopping adventure. From there, we visited Green Life Garden, Meiqi Garden and Heli Garden. There are so many other places to visit but this is all we could accommodate in a day.

Before we headed out to explore, I had the opportunity to visit the HOKAS 園藝工具factory and see where all their tools are made. They began as garden tool manufacturers for other brands, including internationally known ones, before eventually creating their own line for horticulture and floriculture professionals, as well as home gardeners.

I was delighted to see their entire range on display as only a limited range is available in Singapore. While I was here, I purchased a pair of snips, floral scissors, and dragon fruit pruning shears. Their pole pruners are impressive but are not available in Singapore as of yet. I wanted to get it but was not prepared to lug it back with me

Here are the 4 places we visited at Tianwei:

Tenway Garden 菁芳園

My friend Ong Chun Yeow joined us for lunch and a well spent afternoon in Tianwei. I can’t recommend Tenway Garden enough, there is so much I love about it.

We were welcomed by begonias lining the walkway to the restaurant, which looks like a large greenhouse, then further greeted by more plants inside. We ordered set meals that were very light and healthy, quite substantial and very satisfying. I was served a side dish of Chayote shoots, which inspired me to grow the plant this season.

After lunch, we went for a stroll on the beautifully landscaped grounds, it was such a wonderful experience and I would love to come back again.

Tenway Garden is situated at 522, Taiwan, Changhua County, Tianwei Township, Dalian Village, 張厝巷73號之1. View on Google Maps.

Green Life Garden 綠果庭院

GreenLife Garden is a garden nursery and gardening supplies store with a large collection of succulents alongside a good selection of aroids and other ornamental plants. The owners are friendly, hospitable, and knowledgable about plants, making it a pleasant place to spend some time and buy plants.

Find it at 522, Taiwan, Changhua County, Tianwei Township, Dalian Village, 張厝巷121號對面有白色貨櫃的園區. View on Google Maps.

Miki Orchid 美琪園藝 門市部

Miki Orchid was a lovely stopover, where we got to peruse an interesting collection of orchids, aroids and platyceriums. They are known for hybridising orchids of their own and there were several plants I would have liked to bring home.

Miki Orchid is located at No. 438號, Section 1, Gongyuan Rd, Dalian Village, Tianwei Township, Changhua County, Taiwan 522. View on Google Maps.

Heli Garden 合利園藝

Heli Garden is a garden nursery that retails a wide selection of plants, with something that will appeal to every kind of gardener. They have a good collection of flowering and foliage plants, as well as a dedicated section for ferns, and they also sell lotus and waterlily plants. It is neat and well laid out, offering an enjoyable shopping experience.

It is located at No. 26號, Section 1, Gongyuan Rd, Dalian Village, Tianwei Township, Changhua County, Taiwan 522. View on Google Maps.
